Lib Dem Councillor Defects to Conservatives

Councillor Mrs Lynn Hughes, who has represented the Hemnall ward on Epping Town Council since May 2011, has defected from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservatives. The Conservatives now hold 11 of the 12 seats on Epping Town Council.

Eleanor Laing MP raises concerns over an elected House of Lords

Speaking in the debate on the Queen’s Speech, Eleanor Laing welcomes reform of the House of Lords, but reaffirms her concerns that an elected House of Lords would undermine the position of the elected Members of the House of Commons and make them less likely to be able to hold the Government to account.

Local election results

The Conservative party has gained two Buckhurst Hill wards from the Liberal Democrats in the council elections. It follows an incredible year for the Conservative led local authority.  Last year the local District council managed to find £1.3 m of savings without the dramas of other councils in this austerity crisis.
